1921 TULSA RACE MASSACRE CENTENNIAL COMMISSION &
GREENWOOD RISING HISTORY CENTER
What began as a volunteer, passion-project grew into a contract with the 1921 Tulsa Race Massacre Centennial Commission for event planning and media management services in partnership with local event production and public relations companies.
In her volunteer role, Canaan oversaw and managed all events for the Commission including the 99th Anniversary Virtual Event, Greenwood Rising Groundbreaking and many small scale events honoring the events of 1921.
In 2021, the Commission hired Canaan to co-produce their Centennial Event, Remember & Rise, and the Grand Opening of the Greenwood Rising History Center in partnership with a local event production company.
Event planning and logistics has been Canaan's passion from the beginning of her career. Early in her career, Canaan worked with a team to plan an annual international meeting and exposition attracting over 10,000 attendees.
Convention planning set the foundation for understanding every detail that must be considered for a variety of events, as well as negotiating contracts, guest experience and attendee logistics.
Over the last decade, Canaan branched out to oversee the execution of a variety of events such as press conferences, groundbreakings and statewide initiative announcements.

In 2015, the United States Navy formally named the USS Tulsa on behalf of the Ship's sponsor, Kathy Taylor the sitting Secretary of the Navy, Ray Mabus. Coordinating this event is a highlight of Canaan's career. The success of this event depended on the ability to coordinate with multiple involved parties and strictly adhere naval protocol. Canaan and her team were honored to receive platitude from Secretary Mabus when he shared it was one of the most well-planned events of this nature he had attended.
USA bmx HEADQUARTERS GRAND OPENING
USA BMX relocated to Tulsa, Oklahoma after constructing a new headquarters, Hall of Fame & Museum and race tracks. Canaan assisted USA BMX with many special events and media tours, and in February 2022, Canaan was honored to manage all the details for the grand opening of the international headquarters.

Over one hundred Oklahoma PR, advertising and branding experts collaborated to create the new brand identity for the state. The state brand was revealed at a press conference with the Governor & Lieutenant Governor, and was attended by all local media and those worked to create the new design.

A self-proclaimed "news junkie," Canaan has worked with hundreds of journalists on behalf of her clients. Print, TV and radio media outlets provide an invaluable service to our communities. By creating relationships and garnering trust from the media, Canaan has successfully helped her clients put their best foot forward.
She has worked with all media outlets in NE Oklahoma, the state of Oklahoma and many national and international outlets including NBC, CBS, AP, CNN, MSNBC, Fox News, The New York Times, The Guardian, the BBC and the Wall Street Journal.
OKLAHOMA AQUARIUM • The TODAY SHOW
In 2019 the Oklahoma Aquarium was featured LIVE on the Today Show during shark week with a segment of a live dive in the shark tank with NBC correspondent Kerry Sanders. Canaan and her team coordinated not only once, but twice...when the live shot had to be pushed to the next day due to breaking news.
KITCHENAID SENIOR PGA CHAMPIONSHIP
Tulsa's Southern Hills Country Club welcomed the Senior PGA in 2021. Throughout 2020 & 2021, Canaan was the account manager for the PGA at her firm. From photo shoots around town to news conferences and finally onsite media management, Canaan was there for it all.
AHHA TULSA
ahha Tulsa was an iconic museum in the heart of Tulsa's Arts District. Over the years, Canaan assisted ahha with multiple news conferences and media announcements including THE EXPERIENCE and the Flaming Lips Mark Coyne's installment at the museum. Canaan also produced the video shown at the 2021 CREATE gala which showcased the sixty years of work Hardesty Arts has contributed to the community.

In addition to event management, Canaan served as both a volunteer and contract employee to assist the Commission with media relations. This project entailed multiple press announcements and crisis communication management. Canaan worked with a team of local PR professionals to assist the Commission with the hundred of media requests they received and arranged interviews with appropriate spokespeople over this two year period.
Canaan served as the media contact for all aspects of the Centennial. She worked and coordinated with over 300 journalists from across the globe leading up to the Centennial events.

In her eight years at sixPR, Canaan helped managed media for events such as the grand opening of the music venue, casino and hotel, crisis events like the 2019 flood and countless concert media requests.
STREETS GONE WILD
In 2016, Tulsa hosted an 80's hair metal music festival, Streets Gone Wild. Canaan assisted with all media regarding the announcement, media inquiries and all onsite media management and interviews.

Understanding the role of government on city, county and statewide issues, as well as local political climates, is essential for growth.
